Position Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll support and improve the software that runs Visy’s paper mills, box plants, and storage facilities (called MES — Manufacturing Execution Systems).

The role handle software support, development, project work, and ongoing improvements for manufacturing and supply chain systems — including ABB CPM (Millwide) and related tools. You’ll work closely with operations, quality, and IT teams to keep everything running smoothly, securely, and aligned with what the business needs.

This position operates with a high degree of independence and technical expertise, while contributing to project outcomes and supporting critical manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance:

• Follow all safety rules and procedures
• Help keep systems running safely
• Spot and flag any operational, security, or compliance risks

Application Support and Development:

• Provide advanced (Level 2/3) support for MES and related factory software
• Investigate and fix issues, bugs, and system problems
• Find the real root cause of problems and fix them for good
• Build, test, and release software updates
• Keep software settings, core data, and documentation up to date
• Take part in an on-call rotation to support critical systems

Project Delivery:

• Help deliver MES and manufacturing tech projects
• Work with business teams to understand what they need
• Help design, build, test, and launch solutions
• Support project launches and provide extra support right after
• Make sure projects are completed on time and to a high standard

Business Partnership:

• Collaborate with operations, production, quality, supply chain, and IT teams
• Make sure solutions actually meet business needs and follow tech standards
• Give technical advice to the team
• Build strong relationships across global teams

Continuous Improvement:

• Look for ways to improve system performance and user experience
• Help make manufacturing software more standardized and efficient
• Stay updated on MES and manufacturing tech trends
• Support the IT department’s long-term tech plans

Security and Risk Management:

• Apply good security practices throughout the software’s lifecycle
• Keep systems in line with company standards
• Help keep critical manufacturing systems running smoothly, even during disruptions

Experience and Qualifications

Must-haves:

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, application support, or MES systems
• 5+ years of experience with Oracle SQL development
• Experience supporting important business software, especially MES
• Good understanding of manufacturing, production, and supply chain processes
• Experience across the full software development process — building, testing, launching, and supporting
• Strong problem-solving skills, especially with complex technical issues
• Experience working with business teams and different departments globally

Nice to have:

• Experience with ABB CPM (Millwide) or similar MES systems
• Some exposure to ERP systems and factory automation tech
• Experience in paper, packaging, or manufacturing industries
