Marriott Tech Accelerator is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II in Hyderabad to help build and grow the Spark and Scala systems that power Marriott’s pricing and revenue platform – one of several software engineer jobs currently open on the team.

Position Summary:

You’ll build cloud-based solutions that can grow easily, improve how we process huge amounts of data (both in bulk and in real-time), and help modernize the systems behind Marriott’s pricing platform. For this role, we’re looking for someone with strong, well-rounded engineering skills, who’s comfortable working across different teams, and has experience leading new features while also mentoring junior engineers.

Core Work Activities:

• Build and maintain high-performance Spark and Scala data pipelines on Amazon EMR
• Keep applications running smoothly through performance checks, tuning, and planning
• Design APIs/services to support our pricing and revenue platform
• Stay updated on the latest in cloud and distributed computing, and apply useful improvements
• Work with architects, engineers, and business teams to design and improve our systems
• Ship quality code regularly using agile development practices
• Promote good habits like automated testing, code reviews, and pair programming
• Work with Operations and DevOps teams on deployments, monitoring, and fixing issues

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience
• 6+ years of real software development experience, especially building large-scale, high-performance applications
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Apache Spark and Scala, including building and optimizing large data pipelines
• Proven experience with Amazon EMR — setup, tuning, troubleshooting, and managing Spark jobs in the cloud
• 3+ years of experience building apps on cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure is fine too), including tools like S3
• Good with SQL and NoSQL databases (like PostgreSQL and Couchbase), including designing data structures and optimizing searches
• Experience building distributed systems using Pub/Sub patterns and tools like Kafka
• Strong experience improving performance — across Spark jobs, services, database queries, and cloud resources
• Working knowledge of DevOps tools like Git, JIRA, Harness/Jenkins, and CI/CD
• Great communication skills — able to explain technical ideas clearly to different teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with integration tools like Apache Camel
• Experience building microservices (Java, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate) and using Kubernetes/OpenShift
• Experience with ReactJS or similar frameworks (full-stack experience)
• Experience with highly concurrent systems (like Akka-based apps)
• Experience in travel, hotel, pricing, or revenue management
• Exposure to big-picture system design and modernization projects
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
