As a Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank, you’re part of a fast-moving team that works to improve, design, and deliver the software parts of the firm’s advanced technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a growing member of a software engineering team, you build software solutions through the design, development, and technical problem-solving of multiple parts within a technical product, application, or system, while building the skills and experience needed to grow in your role.

Job Responsibilities

• Carries out standard software solutions, design, development, and technical problem-solving
• Writes secure, high-quality code in at least one programming language with limited guidance
• Designs, develops, codes, and troubleshoots while keeping upstream and downstream systems and technical effects in mind
• Uses tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to get more value from automation
• Uses technical problem-solving to break down solutions and fix basic technical issues
• Collects, studies, and draws conclusions from large, varied data sets to spot problems and support decision-making for secure, stable app development
• Learns and applies system processes, methods, and skills for building secure, stable code and systems
• Uses company-approved AI coding tools to improve code quality, speed, and output (e.g., writing/improving code, creating tests, writing documentation), while checking results through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards
• Uses tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including company-approved AI-assisted development and automation tools, to get more value from automation

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, plus 2+ years of hands-on experience
• Practical, hands-on experience in system design, app development, testing, and keeping systems stable
• Hands-on experience in Python, Java, and AI frameworks/tools
• Experience writing, fixing, and maintaining code in a large company setting using one or more modern programming languages and database query languages. Clear ability to code in one or more languages
• Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle
• Some exposure to agile methods such as CI/CD, application stability, and security
• Growing knowledge of software and technical processes in a technical area (e.g., cloud, AI, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
• Hands-on experience using company-approved AI-assisted development tools (e.g., for coding, testing, troubleshooting, or documentation), with the ability to check and confirm AI-generated results
• Understanding of responsible AI use at work, including handling sensitive data carefully and following security and stability guidelines

• Familiarity with modern front-end technologies
• Some exposure to cloud technologies
