Why this role is important to us

The candidate will join the Investment Solution Group team, which is part of Investment Technology Services at State Street Investment Management. As part of this team, the candidate will help build new, advanced features for an application that helps build investment portfolios across different types of assets. They will also help update the application, including moving it to the cloud.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain parts of the PROSE application. Make sure they work well, run fast, and are easy to maintain – so the multi-asset business can keep growing in the future.
• Study the business logic and calculations used in the database, and create technical plans to move them to better, more flexible solutions.
• Hands-on development of services using Java and the Spring framework.
• Lead problem-solving for complex technical issues, guide the team in fixing design, performance, data, and connection problems throughout the project.
• Work closely with Business Analysts, Technical Architects, and the internal team to turn complex needs into high-quality, fast, and long-lasting software solutions.
• Design and guide how different parts of the data work together, following good practices to keep things consistent, flexible, and matched with existing data and systems.
• Build, test, and set up ready-to-use software using Java and new tools like GenAI, while staying hands-on with the actual coding work.
• Give helpful technical advice through code and design reviews, carefully checking proposed changes to make sure they match the team’s standards and performance goals.
• Ensure high-quality software delivery by writing and reviewing unit, integration, and automated tests, focusing on performance, stability, and easy maintenance.
• Keep improving testing methods and tools, finding ways to strengthen automation, test coverage, and development speed.
• Actively help lead the agile delivery process, including daily standups, sprint planning, backlog updates, and review meetings, while encouraging ongoing improvement in engineering practices.

Preferred Qualifications and Education

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in database engineering, development, and database modeling using SOLID principles and industry best practices.
• Strong skill in RDBMS (SQL & PLSQL) as a Database Expert in Oracle.
• Good experience building Java-based REST services and building the functional logic in service components.
• Strong understanding and experience with all stages of building software (from design, to launch, to support after launch).
• Ability to look at complex business and technical problems, and lead the design and delivery of strong, fast, well-working software.
• Good understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI ideas, and the ability to actually use AI tools (like Copilot or similar) to work faster, make better decisions, and get better results.
• Excellent writing and speaking skills, with the ability to work well with engineering, product, and business teams. Known for having a positive, can-do attitude.
• At least 5 years of experience in financial services, including front-office applications.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
