Senior Software Engineer (Java Backend Developer with experience in designing, developing, and writing
Experience Required: 3–5 Years
Job Overview: Responsible for studying, designing, building, and delivering software solutions. Define requirements for new applications and custom features, following Mastercard’s standards, processes, and best practices. Build, customize, and test applications to fit Mastercard’s specifications. Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical training to other team members.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and build tech solutions to meet business needs, following Mastercard’s rules and best practices.
- Lead the team’s daily work of building and maintaining systems, meeting deadlines, and creating solutions that are creative, cost-effective, high quality, and delivered fast.
- Take responsibility for the whole software development process – writing clear requirement documents, use-cases, designs, and other technical papers like test plans, performance tests, release plans, backup plans, feasibility studies, and cost/time estimates.
- Take care of system upkeep, deal with issues in live systems, figure out what’s causing them, fix them, and take part in on-call shifts. Choose the right tools and delivery methods. Adjust templates to fit each project. Share ideas that help the team stick to standards. Keep tech plans up to date.
- Research and check out current and upcoming technologies and tools.
- Take part in test projects (Proof of Concept) and help pick vendor tools, technologies, and methods.
- Work with vendor teams to support their products.
- Run casual training sessions on new tools and methods. Share vendor tech knowledge with the Mastercard team. Train other team members.
- Support quality checks in the department. Always look for ways to improve and work more efficiently. Guide and mentor team members through every stage of development. Make sure there’s enough testing – Unit, System/Integration, and Performance Testing. Do quality checks throughout, including requirement, design, code, and security reviews, to make sure everything meets Mastercard’s standards.
- Coordinate offshore development work and manage daily tasks.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equal work experience.
Knowledge / Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience delivering secure solutions in the Financial Services industry is preferred.
- Broad understanding of Software Engineering concepts and methods is required.
